Londonderry Change for Play
Flood Brook School in Londonderry is working towards replacing our old playground structure with a new, all inclusive play space. In addition to new structures, the FBS Playground Committee has also worked on a site plan that will address drainage issues, and create accessibility to all areas of the playground and playing fields.
It was important to members of the committee that students take an active part in raising money for their new playground. To that end, the FBS Playground Committee launched the Change for Play fundraising initiative. This effort involves Flood Brook students by asking them to find loose change at home, or to work in the community to earn money that can be donated to the effort. Students are looking for coins left over from trips, tucked away in a drawer, sitting in a jar in the laundry room or gathering dust under the seat of the car.
The Fall Change for Play fundraising event will run until December 13. Each classroom has their own collection jar and a chart where kids can keep track of their progress. Every Friday, second grade students gather, count, and record the change collected from each classroom. Those totals are reported back to the class early the next week. In the first two weeks we are excited to report that the students have raised over $1200! We have found a sponsor for each grade who is willing to match what the students bring in, up to $500 per grade, so that every $1 that comes in is actually worth twice that amount.
Donations to the Change for Play fundraiser, payable to the Mountain Towns RED, can either be dropped off at the school or sent to: Flood Brook School, 91 VT Route 11, Londonderry, Vt., 05148.
