Love Your Mother
Saturday, May 7, isGreen-Up Day in Manchester. Volunteers of all ages are asked to report to the former Chamber of Commerce parking lot on Bonnet Street at 9 a.m. The town is divided into approximately 15 routes for clean-up of roadside litter. In addition, there will be some special projects at the Town Green and Recreation Area. We suggest that if you have any old XC ski poles without baskets, you bring them, as they make great pokers to get debris out of the ditches.
To help make this day a fun one, we will ‘salt’ the clean-up routes with colored blocks. Kids who find blocks as they pick up litter may turn them in for prizes donated by local merchants. There will also be a trash sculpture contest. This year’s theme is ‘Biking is Great in Vermont.’ The sculpture must be put together with rubbish collected along the clean-up routes.
All participants are invited to partake in a hot-dog roast and ice cream at noontime, sponsored by Spiral Press Cafe and will be held next to the Spiral Scoops. Call Bill Drunsic at 802-362-1516 or John O’Keefe at 802-362-1313 with any questions, comments or ideas to make this day successful and fun!
In cooperation with Casella Waste Management, we will accept tires between 9 a.m. and noon only. There will be a charge of $3 each for passenger and light truck tires and $5 for large truck tires, half of the usual charge at the Transfer Station/Recycling Center. If it rains, the event will be held instead on Sunday, May 8, 1 to 4 p.m.
