LTS Hires Seth Rice as Varsity Basketball Coach
Long Trail School (LTS) has hired Seth Rice to coach boys varsity basketball this season. The school has fielded varsity basketball teams for two years approved by the Vermont Principals Association and the Marble Valley League. This hiring will grow the team in its varsity level preparation.
“Seth’s wealth of knowledge will transform our players,” commented director of athletics Tim Smith. “He has a reputation for basketball excellence in southern Vermont that made us pursue him as our coach.”
Rice was a member of the 1981 Division II state championship basketball team at Burr and Burton, has coached at Manchester Elementary-Middle School and was a coach at Burr and Burton for 10 years. He has led teams to Marble Valley League and State titles and received accolades, including the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year Award in 2006. Teams under his leadership have received acclaim, including the Mona Garone Sportsmanship Award in 2006. In its first varsity season in 2015/16, Long Trail posted a solid 9-9 record, and has senior Liam Sheldon returning after selection as a First Team All Marble Valley League player last year. Asked what excites him about coaching at LTS, Rice said, “I really appreciate the small-school atmosphere. These guys had a good season last year and I look forward to helping them grow and advance.”
