LTS Student to Perform in NYC
Patrick James Staples, 17, of Peru will perform a solo piano recital at New York’s famed conservatory Manhattan School of Music on Sunday, September 11. The recital will include works by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Khachaturian, Gershwin and Liszt, as well as an original composition written for the occasion. Patrick is a senior International Baccalaureate music student at Long Trail School in Dorset, where he studies with Geoffrey Gee. He has attended summer programs at New England Conservatory and at Manhattan School of Music where he studies classical piano with Kariné Poghosyan. Accomplished in both classical and jazz, Patrick has twice been selected as pianist for the Vermont All-State Jazz ensemble, performing at the Flynn Center Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. He was guest soloist for ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ with the Washington County Band at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, and won the Bennington County Choral Society scholarship competition. He has also performed in New York at the Broadway Loves Shriners Hospitals for Children benefit concerts and at the winner’s recital for the American Protégé International Competition for Romantic Music at Carnegie Hall.
