Manchester’s Applejack Field Hosts Soccer Triple-Header
On Saturday, September 3, as part of a soccer triple-header, the Middlebury College women’s soccer team takes on their historic rival Williams College in a pre-season NCAA Division III women’s soccer match-up at Applejack Field. Kick-off is at 12 noon at Applejack Field in the Dana L. Thompson Memorial Park in Manchester Center. “We’re looking forward to a good match to help us hone our team for the season. Both teams will be trying out their new players and their team tactics, and hoping to learn from their mistakes,” said long-time Middlebury Soccer coach Peter Kim. Both teams are returning a large number of players from their 2015 rosters.
“Between the two teams, we’ve represented the conference in the NCAA Final Four over the past three years, and we definitely have a great rivalry,” said Coach Kim. “But we won’t face each other in conference play until the last match of the regular season, so we’ll both be focusing on performance rather than the result.”
Later that day, the 2015 Vermont high school championship runners-up Burr and Burton Academy girls’ team open their season against Saint Johnsbury Academy at 4 p.m. The Burr and Burton Academy players will have the chance to talk with Middlebury squad before kick-off about the ups and downs of college and soccer. At 2:30, Town and Burr and Burton officials dedication the newly constructed Eckhardt Field and McClellan Field.
The full day of soccer actions finishes up at 7 p.m. under the lights of Applejack Field when the Southern Vermont College men host SUNY Cobleskill in a regular season NCAA Division III match-up.
High school soccer action continues at Applejack Field on Tuesday, September 6, at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., when Long Trail School boys and girls play host to Bellows Falls and Black River. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during all three games.
