Tilting at Windmills Gallery will present a whopper of a show for two celebrated artists this Saturday, October 8.

Olaf Schneider is an exuberant and prolific large-scale painter, in oils who revels in offering a wide variety of subject matter. He acquired a strong practical foundation while painting large scale billboards in 1986 that would become integral to his work today. Composition, color and craftsmanship are his building blocks, with each of his works representing an intense exploration of its subject. Schneider is inspired by the diversity of the northern landscape – and anything that needs a ‘second look.’ An explorer by nature, he travels  across North America and Europe. His work is represented throughout the US and Canada.

Local artist Susan Read Cronin is nationally and internationally revered for her impressionistic, figurative and gestural bronze sculptures. Her work has been featured at the prestigious Copley Society of Boston, where she is a member, and in group shows at the National Sculpture Society in New York City, the Hunter Kirkland Contemporary in Santa Fe and Tilting at Windmills. Cronin uniquely portrays the essence of life’s moments in her silhouettes and loosely modeled surfaces, offering the viewer humor and reflection. Her collectors will be delighted that a few of the pieces in this show have never before been exhibited; Cronin displayed these special pieces in her own home and studio, and as she and her husband are preparing to move, are offered to the public for the first time.

An opening reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Starting at 1 p.m., Schneider will demonstrate how he creates his original oil paintings. Cronin will show examples of the bronze sculpture process and offer insight into her personal evolution as a sculptor. All are welcome to attend this free event.

Tilting at Windmills Gallery is located on 24 Highland Avenue in Manchester Center. For further information, call 802-362-3022 or visit tilting.com.
