Maple Street School Provides Thanksgiving Baskets
For the past seven years, Maple Street School’s Student Council has organized Thanksgiving turkey baskets for families in greater Bennington County who need help to make their holiday dinner a success. This year was no different. Through student organized dances, chores, and donating can goods, the students were able to raise over $400 to purchase enough goods to provide nine families with a Thanksgiving feast. The baskets were filled with all the traditional Thanksgiving fixings. From the turkey to the napkins, from fresh vegetables to tin foil for leftovers, the baskets all had the things that make Thanksgiving dinner so special.
United Counseling Service, who distributed them to local deserving families, picked the baskets up at Maple Street right before the holiday. Student Council President, Lily Thebault stated, “We would like to thank all of the local middle-schoolers who came to our dance last week. They brought canned goods that helped us start our baskets and the remaining items were purchased with the money collected. I really enjoyed shopping for the baskets, we even saved $314.02 by using coupons!” The Maple Street Student Council wishes to extend a very special thank you to Price Chopper for helping with the shopping efforts.
