MASS MoCA Celebrates 15 Years
Memorial Day marks 15 years for MASS MoCA in North Adams, Mass., and they’re throwing a party with Bhangra funk music, fun food, festive spirits and a dazzling new display of art on Saturday, May 24.
Museum director Joseph Thompson, says “Expect a rollicking dance party with lots of friends and family, interesting food trucks and newly concocted drinks, a few surprises, and excellent art and music.” Teresita Fernández’s installation of gold and graphite opens with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Primarily using graphite and gold, Fernández creates works that shift in scale from the colossal to the infinitesimal, utilizing natural and manufactured light to create an ever-changing atmospheric landscape. The reception includes local food and wine. Food trucks and bars line up with fun fare, festive cocktails and cheap beer at 6 p.m. in the Museum’s central courtyard, with dancing beginning at 7 with DJ Rekha; at 8:30, Red Baraat performs. Expect pop-up performances by past MASS MoCA favorites. Tickets are available through the box office on Marshall Street in North Adams, by phone at 413-662-2111 or online at massmoca.org
