MASS MoCA to Show Works from Sundance Theatre Lab
The Sundance Institute’s renowned Theatre Lab has developed Broadway and Off-Broadway hits by the bushel, and its annual program at MASS MoCA gathers top-tier dramatic artists and includes a work-in-progress performance for audiences. This year’s participants tackle themes from the underbelly of American life, exploring race, love and politics, in three new musical theater projects presented on Saturday, November 14, at 8 p.m. Obie Award-winning writer Kirsten Childs’ ‘Buffalo Bella: an American Tall Tale’ is a musical exploring the African-American experience in the Old West. When ‘Clandestino’ investigates immigration reform, small-town politics and religious fundamentalism. Tony Award-winning composer-lyricist Adam Guettel and Obie Award-winning writer Craig Lucas are working on an untitled new musical based on a 1958 teleplay about a love affair between two average Americans torpedoed by alcoholism. Tickets are available at 413-662-2111 or massmoca.org. MASS MoCA is located in North Adams, Mass.
