MCL Hosts Holiday Reception and Talk on ‘A Christmas Carol’
Enjoy a fascinating look at the story behind the writing of ‘A Christmas Carol’ as well as a special holiday reception featuring delectable hors d’oeuvres donated by some of the area’s finest restaurants with mulled cider and wine at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, at the Manchester Community Library.
Lecturer Barry Deitz will discuss how Charles Dickens came up with the now-classic
‘A Christmas Carol,’ and its unusual publishing history. Deitz will also look at how this short book has impacted popular culture and shaped the modern celebration of the holiday in this illustrated talk.

His background is in television and radio, having hosted a television movie review program and a radio jazz program. Deitz has worked as a librarian and high school teacher, spent ten years working in bookstores and engaged in community theater.
