Manchester Elementary Middle School came together with the community on June 2 for their second Saint Baldrick’s Day. Eight members of the community cut off eight or more inches of their hair to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. This hair will be used to create wigs, free of charge, for women undergoing treatment for cancer. They were followed by 35 members of our community that stepped forth to ‘Brave the Shave,’ raising money for the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. Shavees included students and staff from Team MEMS, Team BBA and others. Several shavees were returning from last year’s event; ten females participated this year. Many of the shavees had enough hair to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths as well. Some families shaved their heads together, making the event even more meaningful. Sixteen volunteer stylists shaved the participants heads amidst a cheering, supportive crowd. They listened as each one stepped forward with their compassionate reasons for shaving their heads. With donations turned in at the event and a dance organized by Carson Cutler, the School’s total donation was over $15,000! Please give an extra smile to those you see around town that have a shaved head and a big heart.
