Migrating Birds at Hildene
There will be two monthly bird walks at Hildene in Manchester, Saturdays, May 11 and 25, both meeting at the Visitor Center at 7 a.m. The urge for birds to migrate is triggered by a combination of changes in day length, lower temperatures, changes in food supplies and genetic predisposition. The two primary resources being sought are food and nesting locations. Even if thwarted by weather systems, the birds still come. At Hildene, you’ll probably hear the great-crested flycatcher from the parking area and the Virginia rail from the boardwalk. Contact Randy at [email protected] for more information.
