Red Cross Blood Drive

Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, 100 Hospital Drive, Bennington is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 1,  in its employee cafeteria. This drive provides an opportunity to make a double donation of red blood cells, the most frequently used blood component, needed by almost every type of patient requiring transfusion. Double red cell donation is done with the help of a special machine which collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. Choosing to donate double the red blood cells is a way to make a greater impact during a single donation. Red Cross blood donor eligibility requirements have changed recently. Those who have been deferred from donating in the past are encouraged to check their eligibility again at the website. To make an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org or call 800-733-2767. For details, contact Susan Gallina at 802-447-5345.

Manchester Meditation

The awakened life is the essence and aim of the Buddhist teaching according to Anam Thubten, who recently published a small book, ‘Embracing Each Moment.’ The book is being used as a guide for a meditation group in Manchester, led by Roger Guest, which meets every Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. on the second floor of the RK Miles Administration Building on Depot Street. You are invited to join them in learning to let go of habitual, addictive ways of being to embrace each moment of our precious lives. Participation is by donation of whatever amount you can afford. For further information, call Martha at 802-325-3146 or Harda at 802-447-7065.
