‘Murder in the Mountains’
The Wilburton Inn invites all history lovers and arm chair detectives to ‘Murder in the Mountains,’ an interactive murder mystery dinner party on Saturday November 2, at 6, at the Wilburton Inn. The cost for the three-course dinner and entertainment is $40. For reservations or information call 802-362-2500. The mystery is set in 1900, and based on the actual history of the Chicago tycoon who built the Wilburton Inn. A.M. Gilbert won 400 acres from a Vermont farmer in a rigged game of poker, and amassed the largest parcel of land in Manchester at the turn of the century. He died mysteriously eight years later. Guests will mingle with the characters over drinks, dinner and dessert, then retire to the living room to put the clues together. Dinner guests are invited to dress in festive, elegant attire. The menu by Chef Josh Tomson will include recipes and cocktails from the turn of the century. The cast features New York actors Alysia Reiner, star of the Netflix hit, ‘Orange is the New Black,’ David Alan Basche, currently starring in the new series ‘The Exes’ on TVLand and a cast of local Vermont actors. The mystery will be directed by Sheila Childs, based on a script by Tajlei Levis, a writer and lyricist whose musical adaptation of Edith Wharton’s ‘Glimpses of the Moon’ was produced at the famed Algonquin Hotel in New York City. Her recent musical, ‘The Bootlegger,’ was presented as a reading at the Dorset Playhouse this summer. Tajlei is the daughter of Wilburton Inn owners, Albert and Georgette Levis.
