Navigating the Emotional Barriers of Downsizing

Alice Abraham, owner of A Tempo Senior Move, will be hosting a free educational seminar, ‘Navigating the Emotional Barriers of Downsizing,’ at The Gables at East Mountain in Rutland on Thursday, October  23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.  For 16 years Abraham has been assisting older adults and their families in right-sizing their belongings so they can relocate or age in place more easily.

The presentation, designed for those 55 and over, will help participants establish their personal goals in downsizing, identify roadblocks and emotional triggers, understand available resources and services, and guide them in problem-solving.

“Downsizing is exhausting, both physically and psychologically – it is easy to feel overwhelmed by a lifetime of memories,” says Abraham. “I not only help seniors and their relatives plan and implement moves, but I also work with clients to navigate the deep emotional connections they have to their personal belongings.” Three years ago she was accredited by the National Association of Senior Move Managers and opened her business, the only firm of its type in Vermont. The seminar is free and open to the public. Contact Randi Cohn at 802-770-5275 or to reserve a seat. The Gables, an independent living retirement community, is located at 1 Gables Place in Rutland, Vt.
