The Village School of North Bennington has announced that Timothy Newbold will become the next Head when Tom Martin retires in July 2016. Tim and family currently live in Caanan, N.H., where, as director of studies at the Cardigan Mountain School, he oversees its academic program, including designing courses of study and supervising more than 50 faculty. Newbold has worked for 20 years as a teacher and administrator in schools and environmental organizations. A gifted science teacher and committed environmentalist who believes that a child’s school life incorporates crucial lessons that are not only academic, but equally, social and civic, he is comfortable teaching in a formal classroom, in the woods or on the water.

Newbold’s appointment caps a ten-month search process undertaken by a search committee made up of Village School parents, trustees and community members. Applications were received from all over the country, and narrowed to three finalists who visited over the past three weeks. Tim and his family – wife Amy, a biology teacher, and three children, ages 4 and 6 – look forward to moving to the area next summer.
