North Adams Lights Up the Night
On Thursday evening, at 7 on October 24, the Noel Field Walking Track will be one of hundreds of sites of the Seventh Annual Candlelight Vigil of Healing and Remembrance. Speakers, candle lighting, music, a circle of healing and remembrance and the release of lanterns will highlight the event. The vigil is held in memory of those who have lost their lives due to drug and alcohol related incidents, and those suffering from the disease of addiction. It is also a celebration of those in recovery in our area.
North Adams Mayor Dick Alcombright shared this: “Many lives have been destroyed by substance abuse and the disease of addiction. Too often this disease is perceived as deserved and shameful, leaving families and friends to grieve in silence or an addict alone to struggle to recover. Only through awareness and openness will we eliminate the prejudice that has followed the disease of addiction. On October 24th, we seek to honor and remember those that have passed and celebrate the recovery of our friends, family and neighbors.”
