As a kickoff to the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month, the beloved Vermont poet Leland Kinsey will be speaking at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2. His newest collection of poetry, titled ‘Galvanized,’ ranges from northern Vermont to the highland of his ancestors’ Scotland via the rivers of Labrador, the slopes of Kilimanjaro, dinosaur digs in Alberta, Canada and ranches on the Tex-Mex border. Kinsey’s original images go deep into human history and into the natural world in language so exact and powerful it appears to be galvanized. Kinsey was born and raised on a farm in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, where his ancestors settled in the early 1800s. He has conducted writing workshops for the Vermont Arts Council and the Children’s Literacy Foundation at over 100 schools in New Hampshire and Vermont. He has worked as a farmhand, printer and horse trainer and has published six collections of poetry. Following Mr. Kinsey’s presentation, the Gossamer Stone Poets will be set up in-store with their well-known session of ‘The Poet is In’ from 2 to 4 p.m.; have a poem written for you while you wait. Donations to the Book Angels Program are appreciated.
