Off the Shelf: Garrison Keillor
Garrison Keillor will present ‘The Keillor Reader,’ with stories, essays, poems and personal reminiscences from the sage of Lake Wobegon, on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m. The doors will open at beginning at 6, at Manchester Elementary Middle School, 80 Memorial Avenue in Manchester Center. When, at age 13, Garrison Keillor caught on as a sportswriter for the Anoka Herald, he set out to become a professional writer. And so he has done, along with also being a noted storyteller, sometime comedian, essayist, newspaper columnist, screenwriter and poet. Now, a single volume brings together the full range of his work, including monologues from ‘A Prairie Home Companion,’ Keillor’s stories written for The New Yorker and The Atlantic, and excerpts from his novels and newspaper columns. With an extensive introduction and headnotes, numerous photographs and memorabilia, ‘The Keillor Reader’ also presents pieces never before published. ‘Off the Shelf: Authors in Conversation’ is a partnership between the Northshire Bookstore and WAMC Northeast Public Radio., a live stage event featuring Joe Donahue of WAMC’s Book Show interviewing distinguished authors.
