Okemo Wins ‘Chef’s Best Taste’ Award at Rutland’s Winter in August
Okemo Mountain Resort was the recipient of the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce Best Taste Award at the 32nd annual Winter in August Celebration on August 13.
“Okemo Resort won top honors with the Chef’s Best Taste Award,” said Tom Donahue, CEO at the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce. “They made a wonderful impression with their delicious food. Winter in August is one of the most anticipated Rutland Region Chamber events of the summer and has become a true taste of Vermont.”
The award winner was named by a panel of judges led by Chef Paul Lasky, of New York City. Chef Rick Iffland, from Middlebury College and Mike Clifford were also on the panel. The nine judging criteria ranged from complementing flavors to eye appeal. Restaurants were rated on a weighted point system and scored accordingly.
“I know that it was a close competition,” said Okemo Mountain Resort Executive Chef Scot Emerson. “All of the chefs who competed are very talented, which makes winning the Best Taste Award a real honor.”
Chef Emerson served Winter in August attendees a variety of culinary treats: Bonne Bouche
ash cured chevre, local comb honey, and local blueberries on slices of freshly baked baguette;
Wild Boar Chili in puff pastry shell, topped with grated Crowley Cheese; Deconstructed Soup of turnip puree with coconut curry foam, topped with fresh, local pea shoots and culinary pop rocks.
