Three members of the Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department  completed the Vermont Fire Academy’s Firefighter II program: Robert Morlino, Ronnie Waite and Jonathan Weiss. The course covers a wide range of skills. “The scope is daunting at first – the text book is 1200 pages,” said Weiss. The course consists of classroom and hands-on training. It is the second part of standard firefighter professional training, developed by the National Fire Protection Association, and is used across the country, from rural volunteer agencies to major cities, “The cool thing is that anyone can do this,” said Waite, who joined the department in 2011. “If you have the commitment and want it badly enough, you can come to the firehouse, join, and train to this level and beyond.” Building such skills can be incredibly rewarding, Waite explained. “Showing up at a house fire in your community and knowing exactly what to do, exactly how to help, is one of the best feelings I have ever experienced.”
