Interview with Charles Reid at Bennington Museum on Friday, September 6 from 3-5 PM
Join us on Friday, Sept 6th from 3-5 PM at the Bennington Museum Ada Paresky Education Center(2nd floor) when Frank M. Costantino will interview master watercolor artist, Charles Reid as part of Plein Air VT 2013 Special Events.
Charles Reid, Juror of Awards at this tear’s Plein Air VT competition, is an artist, renown teacher and author, and has long been considered a master of watercolor. He has written eleven books on painting in watercolor and oil, and conducts workshops around the world. His beautifully clean paintings are fresh and spontaneous, displaying his profound understanding of light and color, as well as his masterful drawing ability. The rich compositions of his figurative works are superbly rendered in a simple, direct and natural gestural manner that reveals his capacity for capturing the light as much as the subject.
Reid was born in Cambridge, New York, and studied art at the University of Vermont and the Art Students League of New York. He has won numerous awards, including the Childe Hassam Purchase Prize at the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the National Academy of Design and the American Watercolor Society. In 1980 he was elected to the National Academy of Design. Public collections of his work include Smith College, Yellowstone Art Center, Brigham Young College, Roche Corporation, and the National Academy of Design. In addition to painting, Reid teaches workshops around the world. He has written eleven books on painting in watercolor and oil. Frank M. Costantino, co-founder of PAVT, signature member of both the New England and North East Watercolor Societies, and member of NY’s Salmagundi Club, among other associations, has been a selected artist in Plein Air Easton! in MD, a recent award-winner in both Cranford, NJ Plein Air and Glynn Art Association, GA competitions. His exuberant watercolors convey a freshness and vigor derived from numerous field paintings and careful study of many admired masters and teachers. Though self-taught, he strives for further nuance and finesse in his paintings. His originals, from his varied output or commissions, are held with numerous collectors in the US. A demonstration with watercolor master Charles Reid
In conjunction with Plein Air Vermont 2013, www.pleinair-vermont.com/2013-schedule-of-events/, watercolor master Charles Reid will be painting a portrait of a young woman at the Northshire during his presentation of watercolor techniques. The demonstration will start at 6:30 PM and run until 7:30 PM, followed by an opportunity to ask questions and a book signing.
