The new exhibit at the Bennington Center for the Arts titled ‘Portraying the Human Spirit,’ has gone a bit beyond just showing artwork that  people can connect with. What started as a simple phone call to an artist to find out if he would be interested in participating, has grown to a mission for the children at an Ugandan orphanage. Jonathan Stasko’s ‘Pure Religion is This’ actually started when his sister Danielle went to Uganda to spend three months at a youth orphanage. From there it has grown into a project to bring life’s most basic necessity – water – to the orphanage. Proceeds from the sale of the painting will go towards the well project. Donations may be made online and in our galleries. Learn more at thebennington.org. The Bennington Center for the Arts is located at 75 Main Street in Bennington, Vt.; 802-442-7158.
