Poultney Public Library News
Viola Mabel (Wade) Lincoln was known for her love of family, and for ‘never meeting a stranger’ as the saying goes. The great-aunt of Library director Rebecca Cook, Mabel was an avid collector of Teddy bears, and left behind many furry friends when she passed away in 2014. After family members selected bears for keepsakes, the family was still left with over a 100 stuffed animals in need of a home. Eight boxes of bears came to the Poultney Public Library earlier this year, and went on sale in October to raise money to purchase items for the children’s room and children’s programming in memory of Mabel and Ralph Lincoln. Several dozen bears have already gone to their new homes, but many more cuddly critters are still available. Stop by the Poultney Public Library to pick out a furry friend of your own.
The Library will be holding two kinds of holiday movie nights this year. Come for TV Tuesdays at 6 p.m. , to be held on December 5, 12 and 19, for classic TV specials on the big screen. Popcorn and cookies will be provided. TV Tuesday programs run about an hour. Come back for Feature Fridays on December 8 and 15 for popular feature length movies at 6 p.m., also with free refreshments. Stop by or contact the library for a full listing of movie titles.
The Library’s annual Christmas ornament donation program is underway. This year’s theme is ‘Literacy Builders.’ A benefactor purchased 96 adorable building block ornaments this year. Donate $2 to help buy items for kids and teens and choose an ornament to take home with you. Ornament donations in the past have bought such things as furniture, educational toys and books to the Library. There are also a few ornaments from past years available while supplies last. Poultney Public Library is located at 205 Main Street.
