If it’s fall in Vermont, Fisher Elementary pre-kindergarten students are learning all about apples. In teacher Savannah de Rham’s class, students have been busy identifying the different parts of an apple, singing apple songs, reading books about apples and sampling various apples to determine differences in taste. As part of a science experiment, the students compared the physical changes to apples that had been preserved in either lemon juice, vinegar, tap water or air. At the end of the unit, each of the 15 students brought in one apple to help make applesauce.
