Quilters Guild Receives Award
The Maple Leaf Quilters Guild was recently awarded the first Community Champion Award from the Rutland County Women’s Network and Shelter (RCWNS). The organization’s executive director, Avaloy Lanning, presented the award to Christine Frohloff, Committee Chair of HERSTORY at the Guild’s September meeting. Lanning commented, “It is amazing to be able to hand someone a comfort quilt when they have left everything behind; it means somebody cares.” The award acknowledges community partners that have made a strong commitment to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Rutland County. The Maple Leaf Quilters Guild supports RCWNS as part of their community service efforts, which include financial contributions, donations of handmade quilts, household items and personal care products. The Guild has been providing this support since RCWNS was known as HERSTORY, and many refer to the donation basket as the HERSTORY basket. According to Frohloff, it was an honor to accept the award on behalf of the Guild, though it was all the guild members who made this possible. Also welcomed at the meeting was Jennifer Yakunovich, coordinator of RCWNS Development and Marketing.
