Raffle to Benefit Gwenn Bogart’s Attempt at Iditarod
Win a trip to Alaska for two, June 30 to July 8, and help fund Manchester, Vermont’s own Gwenn Bogart, who is planning on becoming the first Vermont woman to compete in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The raffle winner will fly out to Alaska to experience premier fishing in Bristol Bay, bear viewing in Katmai National Park, a 4-wheel ATV back country adventure tour, and a tour of Iditarod Champion Martin Buser’s Happy Trail Kennel, plus several site-seeing tours of spectacular glaciers via float plane, a value of over $10,000. The raffle drawing will take place March 22, 2014 at the Eagles Aerie 2551 in Manchester, Vt. Tickets cost $20 each, or 5 for $90.
Bogart, co-founder of Casting for Recovery and a member of the local school board for four years, is currently a resident of Wasilla, Arkansas, training with her dogs to compete in the 2015 Iditarod. This highly competetive, long-distance race, held annually since 1973, follows a 1110- mile route from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. It takes contestants and their dog teams between nine and 15 grueling days to complete the race, through rough terrain and hazardous conditions, with below-zero temperatures, low visibility, blizzards and hours of darkness.
