A fresh blanket of snow adorns the cemetery behind the Vermont Veterans’ Home in Bennington, one of over 1000 locations observing National Wreaths Across America Day.

I invite you to join us on National Wreaths Across America Day at 12 noon on Saturday, December  17, at the Vermont Veterans’ Home, 325 North Street, Bennington. Each December, the mission to remember, honor and teach is carried out by coordinated wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and over 1,100 locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad. The Vermont Veterans’ Home is honored to participate in this national event as one of those locations. Every year we advertise and announce to the best of our ability the dates and times, but during the past two years we have had zero local attendees. Please bring family and friends to participate in this year’s event. It is vitally important for our children to understand and honor our departed  Veterans on this day. The ceremony itself is short but meaningful. Its purpose is not to decorate graves, but to commemorate their sacrifice and dedication to these United States and to the cause of freedom. Looking forward to seeing you there!  Semper Fidelis.
