RK Miles Driver Recognized as Master Truck Driver by VTBA
RK Miles announces that John Paul Staples, Manchester Moffett truck driver, will be awarded the Vermont Truck and Bus Association’s (VTBA) prestigious Master Truck Driver Certification at its annual meeting in Stowe on September 12. This Certification is a prestigious method of recognizing those professional vehicle operators who have made a career of driving large vehicles and who, by their character, experience and good judgment, have contributed to the community and the safety of the driving public. Recipients serve as role models for the trucking industry. Staples, who has been employed by RK Miles for more than ten years, drives a Moffett truck – a specialized flatbed with a forklift mounted on the rear of the truck. He makes building material deliveries throughout southern Vermont, western New Hampshire and eastern New York State. He was nominated for the recognition by fleet manager Jeremy Baker, who states, “John has consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism both with the safe operation of the vehicle he drives as well as his unwavering acts of selflessness in helping fellow motorists in need of assistance.” The criteria for the designation as a Master Truck Driver mandates that each driver must have driven for their company for at least one year; have driven for one million accident-free miles or 25,000 hours of accident-free driving; have received no citations within the past three years; and either have performed some meritorious act of selflessness, participated in community service, and/or demonstrated leadership in a program or event that promotes/furthers the trucking industry’s ideals and growth. Each nomination application is reviewed for its merits by a committee of trucking and enforcement professionals from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that, after an extensive background verification process, makes the final decision as to the merits. At this year’s annual VTBA meeting, Staples will be recognized by honoring his service to both RK Miles and the community. He will be presented with an engraved plaque by Vermont Agency of transportation’s Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, Robert Ide, certifying his professional designation as a Master Truck Driver and he will also be presented a specially monogrammed jacket.
