Rock, Rattle & Drum Pow Wow
Uniting in the true spirit of humankind, the intertribal ‘Rock, Rattle and Drum’ Pow Wow is a unique celebration and sharing of native culture through traditional songs, dances and art. Traditionally, pow wows are gatherings that Native American people use as a place to meet, dance, sing, renew, strengthen and share their rich culture. Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14, ‘Rock, Rattle and Drum’ is celebrating its 11th year of bringing authentic American Indian dancing, drumming and tribal regalia, along with vendor exhibits, arts, crafts, demonstrations, music, contemporary and traditional foods. This year’s event, again held at the Vermont Veterans’ Home, 325 North Street, Benningon, will share an indigenous perspective on sustainable living, with special performances by Arvel Bird, a Nammy Award winner violinist, flute player singer and storyteller, and the Aztec Dance Group; Aaron Athey of the Mohegan Nation will be Master of Ceremonies. Grand Entry presentations at 1 p.m. on both days will honor Veterans and the Abenaki Bands of Vermont. One day admission tickets are $8 for adults; seniors 65+ and youth ages 11 to 17 are $5, and children 10 and under are $1. For more information, call 802-753-6835 or visit healingwinds.net.
