Rupert Kittay Library to Feature Paintings by Arthur Jones
The Rupert Kittay Library will be hosting an open house to celebrate the artwork of the celebrated artist Arthur Jones on Saturday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. A self-taught artist and a native of Dorset, Jones has been painting Vermont bridges, birches and barns for over a half-century. He was first invited at age 20 in 1948 to show his work at the Burr and Burton gym with the group known as the Southern Vermont Artists. He had his first solo show in 1954 at the Southern Vermont Art Center. In the late 60s he taught classes there, becoming acting director in 1975. His paintings include seascapes, an American flag series, 25 paintings known as the Cupboard Series, and numerous still life. Jones’ work is very well known, and has been exhibited from Stowe to Palm Beach, Florida. The exhibit will continue through the months of September and October.
