Rutland Soup Bowls for Hunger
The 12th annual Soup Bowls for Hunger will be held on Wednesday, March 28, at Rutland High School at 22 Stratton Road/Route 4 East. Enjoy a bowl of soup, crackers, roll, dessert and beverage and choose your own handcrafted bowl to take home. The bowls are being made by local school students from Proctor, Otter Valley, West Rutland and Rutland High School as well as professional potters. This event is sponsored for the eighth year by Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Women Educators. There will be two seatings (4:45 and 6:15 p.m.). A raffle for various donated items will also be held. Music for the evening will be provided by Dan Graves.
Soups are being donated by Café Provence, Castleton University, Holiday Inn, Kamuda’s Country Market, Killington Market and Deli, Mae’s Place, Olivia’s Market, Paisano’s Italian Kitchen, Red Clover Inn, Rutland High School Lunch Program/Café Services, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Sweet Caroline’s, Swiss Farm Inn and Table 24. Tickets are $20 per person, and must be purchased in advance. Call Rutland High School Main Office at 802-773-1955. Tickets may also be purchased at Phoenix Books in Rutland. All proceeds will be donated to the Rutland Community Cupboard, BROC’s Community Food Shelf and the Brandon, Pittsford, Poultney and West Rutland Food Shelves.
Manchester Spaghetti Dinner
Northshire Day School in Manchester is having their 11th annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser on Wednesday, March 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. They are asking families to make a $12 donation and individuals, $5, to enjoy ahearty meal of spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, tossed salad, beverages, and dessert. The Parent Committee will be also selling raffle tickets at the door. Proceeds from this event will go towards providing enrichment activities for students. Northshire Day School is located at 5484 Main Street in Manchester Center.
Granville VFW Dinner
VFW Post 1653 at 9 North Street in Granville, N.Y., is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 31, from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by live music from 6 to 11 p.m. Proceeds go to local veterans’ programs.
Granville Spaghetti Dinner
A Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the Slate Valley Museum (SVM) will be held on Wednesday, March 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Granville Methodist Church. Enjoy delicious spaghetti with salad and bread for only $7. An $8 take-out meal will also be available. No reservations are necessary. SVM will also hold a bake sale of dessert items at the event. This annual dinner is organized by the Museum’s Board of Trustees and will be served with the help of student volunteers. Proceeds will support ongoing exhibits and 2018 events at SVM, which offers award-winning educational programs, concerts, exhibitions and an extensive collection of historical artifacts celebrating the history and culture of the Slate Valley region of New York and Vermont. West Pawlet Market/Bake Sale
On Saturday, March 31, the West Pawlet Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its annual Easter Market and Bake Sale at the West Pawlet Firehouse, 2806 Route 153/Main Street in West Pawlet, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bake sale will feature Ellie Park’s Polish nut rolls, dinner rolls, cookies, cakes and pies – come early as they disappear quickly! Coffee and donuts will be available for breakfast. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until closing, offering corn chowder, hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers at family-friendly prices. The Easter Bunny will arrives at 1 p.m. with surprise treats for the children. A special jelly bean rabbit will be awarded to the lucky child who guesses the correct number of jelly beans. Each child gets one chance to claim the prize. The winner will be announced at 2 p.m. Raffles will include a 50/50 drawing, a complete ham dinner and a variety of basket gifts donated by vendors and auxiliary members. Raffle drawings begin at 2:50 pm. A few vendor spaces for arts and crafts sellers only are available at a pre-paid, non-refundable price of $10 per table until March 29. I Matter, You Matter
You Are Never Alone Foundation invites everyone to celebrate the seventh annual ‘I Matter, You Matter’ Day on Wednesday, March 28. Take a moment to remind yourself you matter – then tell your family, friends, co-workers and someone you may not know – that they matter, with a smile, a wave, a hug, a card, a text or an email.
The first in 2012 was at the Friendly’s Restaurant in Manchester, when local families and schools shared the message with family and friends. Over 6,000 invitations were shared through Facebook around the world. In 2015, Joseph Wooten of the Steve Miller Band joined Salley Gibney and members of the former You Are Never Alone Foundation in celebrating ‘I Matter, You Matter’ Day, which led to the distribution of blankets to the homeless. Over 17,430 people in the US, England, Italy, Spain, Bangladesh, Nepal, Korea, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand and India also participated.
‘Mac Madness’ Cook-off
The Mac Madness Cook-Off at Long Trail School (LTS) will be held on Thursday, March 29, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Community members are invited to join LTS students, faculty and families in entering their best macaroni and cheese dishes, and everyone is encouraged to stop by and dine. Entries will be judged by the event attendees in student, amateur and professional categories. It’s free to enter your dish!
