Scandinavian American Nordic Harmoni in Concert This Weekend
In 2001, a group of singers from Londonderry made a great decision to start a Scandinavian American chorus. The original members were Vin and Carol Johnson, Kare Andersen, Doris Tyler, Dyke Forstrom and Carl-Erik and Marijke Westberg. They put out a call for singers, hired a director and the Nordic Harmoni Chorus was born. Now, twelve years later, the chorus belongs to the American Union of Swedish Singers and has over twenty-five singers under the energetic direction of Ken Olsson.
The Nordic Harmoni Chorus is an important part of the local cultural and social scene of Londonderry, Weston and Peru.
A few of the events include the traditional Midsummer festival at the Landgrove Inn, hosting a Fall Foliage Festival weekend for A.U.S.S. singers from across the country, presenting a Santa Lucia Pageant at Christmas in Weston, and numerous charitable concerts.
The chorus will perform at 12, at the Peru Congregational Church during the Peru Fair, Saturday, September 28, and at 3 on Sunday, September 29 at the Church on the Hill in Weston. The programs will feature songs in both English and Swedish.
