Six golf scholarships were awarded for 2016 in memory of Joe Rizio and Richard Wood. These scholarships, each for $1,500, were presented to Chase Andrews of Lake Morey Country Club, Hunter Caler of Manchester Country Club, Braedon Fox of Proctor-Pittsford Country Club, Drake Hull of Rutland Country Club, Tyler McNulty of Mount Anthony Country Club and Zachary Temple of Hanover Country Club. The money raised for these scholarships comes from the annual Rizio-Wood Memorial Golf Tournament, to be held this year on Sunday, August 21, at The Golf Club at   Equinox with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. If you are unable to come out and play on that day, you can lend your support by sponsoring a team of players, sponsoring a golf tee, or by donating a prize or a gift certificate. The Garden Club of Manchester (GCM) Garden Tour, aptly named ‘Through the Garden Gate,’ took place on June 25, and was a spectacular success in every regard – the beauty of the nine private gardens at peak bloom, the perfect weather and the fabulous turnout of over 200 visitors. Thanks are due to the GCM committee members: Jane Marino, Becky Burke, Barbara Shimaitis, Carolyn Smith, and Carol Munson as well as to the garden owners who tended their gardens to perfection. Proceeds support GCM  s scholarship program, in place for more than 35 years, to benefit local high school seniors pursuing horticultural studies.

Congratulations go to GCM’s 2016 recipients, Burr and Burton Academy graduates Jackie Nutter, who will pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Vermont, and Rachel Senecal, who will pursue Environmental Studies and Sustainability at the University of Northern Colorado.
