Shackleton, Survival and Snacks

Ernest Shackleton’s expedition to the Antarctic in 1915 became a struggle for survival when their ship became trapped – and then crushed – in the ice. Learn about this incredible feat of endurance at a special event in Dorset.

The Dorset Village Library is participating in the Vermont Reads program featuring two books about Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton. To celebrate this harrowing expedition and the 100th year anniversary of their rescue, a special program suitable for all ages will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at the Dorset School with Seth Barrows, whose job with the New York National Guard is to fly scientists and their equipment around the Antarctic continent. This event is free and refreshments will be served.
