Students at Shaftsbury Elementary School have shown that school is about more than subject learning; it can also provide important lessons in serving others. In partnership with the NorShaft Lions Club, they have donated canned food during food drives, collected pull tabs to support the Shriners’ Hospital for Sick Children, and during the month of March, empty pill bottles. The children learned from the Norshaft Lions that doctors and hospitals in Africa do not have enough containers to give to patients their medications. In response, the children challenged themselves to how many empty pill bottles they could bring in, donating almost 900 pill bottles, which will be sent to the Lions’ collection point in Ohio and then on to Africa.
