Smokey House Center Names Executive Director
Smokey House Center in Danby, Vt. is pleased to announce the appointment of Jesse Pyles as executive director. Smokey House’s three-part mission of land conservation, agriculture and youth education has served the region for nearly 40 years.
Pyles comes to Smokey House Center from Unity College in Maine where he served as the sustainability director. Prior to that he led service and sustainability programming at Green Mountain College while living at Smokey House Center with his wife Laura, 2005 to 2009.
Board president Paul Beaulieu said, “We undertook an exhaustive national search for a person to lead Smokey House Center. Jesse’s diverse background in education and strength in partnership management clearly stood out.”
“I’m thrilled to be back at Smokey House,” Pyles said. “This really is my dream job.” Pyles has a background in environmental studies and education and is a senior fellow in the national Environmental Leadership Program, a network of professionals supporting leadership development and diversity in the environmental and sustainability fields.
Smokey House Center encompasses more than 5,000 acres of mostly conserved forest and farmland. Its purpose is to maintain a working landscape and promote sustainable agricultural and forestry practices. Learn more at smokeyhouse.org.
