Snowshoe with the GMC
Join the Manchester Section of the Green Mountain Club on Saturday, January 16, for a snowshoe to Stratton Pond. We will meet at the southwest corner of the Stratton Mountain base lodge (nearest the gondola) at 8:15 a.m. Allow 15 to 20 minutes to get from parking to the base lodge. Ride up the gondola to the summit courtesy of the resort, snow shoe to the fire tower on the south peak, north on the LT to Stratton Pond, where we will have lunch, and back to North Brookwood, where we will have left cars to drive back to the base lodge. No dogs are allowed on the gondola during ski season. This moderate hike is six miles, 1500 feet descent and 400 feet ascent. RSVP is required to Dave Ratti at 802-366-0698 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Sunday, January 17, GMC will snowshoe the Equinox Preservation Trust to the Southern Vermont Arts Center. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Red Gate parking on Union Street in Manchester Village. Hike on the red trail to the blue trail to the Trillium Trail to SVAC, where we will have lunch and check out the exhibits. Return on the same trails. The distance is about four miles with an elevation change about 500 feet on the way out and 300 feet on the way back. Moderately easy. RSVP is required to Keld Astrup at 802-362-1422 or email@example.com.
Bring snacks and lunch, fluids, extra clothes, snowshoes. If there is not enough snow to snowshoe, traction devices will be needed.
