Sonic Youth Co-founder Brings New Project to MASS MoCA
Since cutting the first Sonic Youth demos three decades ago, Kim Gordon has delivered a new boundary-breaking project every year. She comes to Hunter Center at Mass MoCA on Saturday, December 14, at 8 p.m., with her latest: a Syd Barrett-era, Pink Floyd-inspired, deeply improvisational duo, Body/Head, that pairs her propelling guitar and vocals with free-noise guitarist Bill Nace.
Gordon rose to prominence as co-founder, bassist, and vocalist of the watershed post-punk experimental rock band, Sonic Youth. Nace is also no stranger to boundary-expanding music. He has been performing with such legends as Paul Flaherty and Thurston Moore and is the founder of the record label Open Mouth, which publishes experimental albums since 2004.
A full bar, and dinner and snacks from Lickety Split, are available before and during the show. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. Members receive a 10 percent discount. Tickets are available through the MASS MoCA box office, located on Marshall Street in North Adams, MA. Tickets, at 413-662-2111 or massmoca.org.
