Soup Bowls for Hunger 2014
The eighth annual Soup Bowls for Hunger will be held Thursday, March 27, in the Rutland High School Cafeteria. There will be three sittings at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Tickets, $15, must be purchased in advance at Rutland High School, and include soup, roll, dessert, beverage, a hand-crafted soup bowl and entertainment. All proceeds will be donated to the Community Cupboard and other local food shelves. The event is being coordinated for the fourth year by members of the Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an international society whose mission is to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.“The event is truly an inter-generational community effort,” said chairperson, Lynn Del Bianco Hier. Over 200 bowls will be featured, made by RHS Creative Structures teacher Kylie Wolgamott and students from Rutland, Proctor, Mill River, Otter Valley Union High Schools and Green Mountain College, or donated by professional potters from Rutland County, western New York and Connecticut. Stafford Technical students will act as wait staff and bakers of rolls and desserts.
Last year’s event raised $6750 for local food shelves. This year’s event is hoping to net even more with a raffle of large bowls donated by Nic Kekic, Jody MacBeth Brewer and Bob Johnson and many other small prizes.
