Students Beautify Memorial
On Friday, May 23, sixth grade students from Grace Christian School beautified a memorial dating from the War of 1812 in White Creek, N.Y., which commemorates McDonough’s victory at Plattsburgh on Lake Champlain on September 11, 1814. The students pulled weeds, raked out leaves and debris, mulched and placed two American flags around the memorial. As the students were working, they noticed the date of 9/11. They also observed that this September marks the 200 year anniversary of the battle. In preparation for the day, the class read the book of Joshua, Chapter 4 from the Bible. They discussed the importance of remembering what God and others have done for us, personally and as a nation. The effort was a part of the annual Serv-a-thon Fundraiser for the school; the students are sponsored as they take a day to serve their community. Students from the school also took care of a private cemetery, gave baked goods to service personnel, worked at NEBC College and visited local nursing homes.
