Broadway Theatre Camp
The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company’s Broadway Theatre Camp is back for its fourth year and registration is underway for students in grades 9 to 12 and graduating seniors. The camp is held at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester. Learn what it takes to be a Broadway performer in a challenging yet supportive environment, with unsurpassed instruction from Broadway and national artists. This year, participants can enroll in one or two weeks of camp. Week One is a ‘West Side Story’ workshop from July 16 to 20. Students will learn the original Jerome Robbins choreography, songs and scenes from the show, explore scenes from the musical’s source material, ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ and engage in special workshops such as stage combat, audition technique and tap. Week Two is a Musical Theatre Intensive from July 23 to 27. Students will work on songs, scenes and choreography from major Broadway and off-Broadway musicals, and leave the week with a monologue and a song picked just for them, for use at school and community auditions. At the end of each session, students will share what they have learned on the Weston Playhouse Main Stage and attend a professional production. Broadway Theatre Camp runs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A tuition discount is available if attending both weeks. Enrollment ends June 15. VAE Summer Camps
The Vermont Arts Exchange (VAE) has announced its summer arts camp line-up. For over 20 years now VAE has provided fun filled summer art camps that get kids out in the woods, playing in the Paran Creek, swimming in Lake Paran and creating works of art back at the VAE Art Studio. VAE campers invent, build, explore and take risks, all while having their imaginations honored and allowed to run free. New this year are VAE Summer Camps at the Bennington Museum. The VAE Art Bus will hold court as their mobile studio.
All VAE camps are $225 for the week and run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The daily drop in rate of $50 is only allowable if the camp is not full and must be reserved. Some scholarship money is available. Detailed information and registration is available at vtartxchange.org.. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 802-442-5549.
Hildene Summer Camp
Hildene summer camps focus on staying connected to nature. In ‘Fabulous Forests,’ kids entering grades three, four and five discover how the forest is more than just trees. In ‘The World of Plants,’ they explore, forage and gather for wild crafting and eating. The youngest of campers, entering grades first, second or third grade, become nature explorers in the ever’popular Nets, Buckets and Boots. Hildene camps are limited to 12 campers and are a week long. All camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit hildene.org/schools/camps.
