Sunrise Family Resource Center Fights Poverty, Homelessness
Sunrise Family Research Center collaborates with community partners to solve the problems of homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse and poverty in the Bennington area. In 2013, the entire staff and board participated in an intensive year of strategic planning. All aspects of the organization were examined and evaluated, resulting in a newly articulated mission, a revigorated staff and concrete plans for the future.
Their Early Care and Education Programs again received a NAEYC five-star rating. The academic expectations for students in Opportunities, our on-site high school completion program for pregnant and parenting teens, have been raised so students are better prepared for post-secondary education and employment. Our outreach staff work to help families find stable housing; refer people to evaluation, mental health treatment and rehab; and log in hundreds of hours in home visits, to teach essential parenting skills. Bennington County relies on Sunrise; we are the only agendy that provides such a broad range of services to families in need. All this is made possible with help from our community’s businesses, organizations and individuals, whose support helps us to reach families in need, paint a classroom, buy new playground equipment, and upgrade the buildings where we work.
