Swing Noire to Perform in Rutland
The Saturday Night Coffee House Concert Series is about to begin its 15th season of great music in the acoustically fine sanctuary at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rutland. This season we will be featuring Jazz, Bluegrass, Blues, Folk and a very unique Cellist. Our first show will be on Saturday, November 9, at 7:30 p.m., with Vermont’s own premier Gypsy Jazz group, Swing Noire.
Swing Noire transports the audience back to the smoky basement speakeasies and slinky cabarets of the early days of Jazz, in the spirit of Django Reinhart and Stephane Grapelli. These stalwarts are credited with creating some of the first and hottest sounds outside of the African-American tradition, and their music was all the rage in the 1930s and 40s, with its energy, soul, sophistication and improvisation.
Unitarian Universalist Church of Rutland is located at 117 West Street, at the corner of West and Cottage Streets, in Rutland, Vt. Tickets are $12 in advance, available at Tattersall’s on Merchant’s Row in downtown Rutland,or $15 at the door, ($8 for seniors and $5 for children).
