Taconic Music to Perform Free Concerts

The Taconic Chamber Players will bring music to the residents of the Vermont Veterans’ Home, 325 North Street, Bennington, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16. Heather Braun-Bakken, Joana Genova, Ariel Rudiakov and  Nathaniel Parke will perform string quartets by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Ravel and Dvorak and some arrangements of popular songs for the free concert, made possible by Vietnam veteran Garry DuFour and Prospect Rehabilitation in Manchester. Artistic directors Genova and Rudiakov have planned a busy week for area students through their Music in Action program on Wednesday, May 16, when they present concerts for the communities of Manchester Elementary and Middle School and Dorset Elementary School. They will also be at Manchester Community Library (MCL) at 4 p.m. that day to perform selected string quartets movements by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Ravel and Dvorak, along with ‘Letters from Home’ by Geoffrey Gee, Long Trail School music director, and pieces composed by students from Long Trail School and Burr and Burton Academy. The afternoon concert, part of MCL’s ‘Music from the Shelves’ series, is free and appropriate for ages seven and up. Thursday May 17, sees the Taconic Chamber Players at Maple Street School and Sunderland Elementary School. The week of school concerts wraps up on Friday, May 18, with a performance at Burr and Burton Academy. For  details, visit taconicmusic.org.
