Taconic Music to Present Concert with Windhaven Ensemble
For a second year, Taconic Music welcomes ensembles from Weston’s Kinhaven Music School to Manchester, with concerts in late May and early June. The first of these will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, when KMS’s Windhaven band will perform for the public at Maple Street School. Admission is $10 at the door, with all proceeds benefitting Taconic Music’s educational outreach programs. Windhaven is a selective, week-long immersive program of woodwinds, brass and percussion led by Thomas McCauley, director of University Bands at the Cali School of Music at Montclair State University in New Jersey. Last spring, the orchestra took the audience’s breath away with a stunning performance of David Maslanka’s 4th symphony. This year they return to present Maslanka’s epic 7th symphony, along with selections by Charles Ives, William Bolcom and Joseph Turrin.
