Tai Chi/Qigong Series Offered at Grace Cottage Hospital

Instructor Jason Sperling leads a class in a recent Tai Chi/Qigong series at Grace Cottage Hospital’s Community Wellness Center.

A new series of Tai Chi/Qigong classes will be offered at Grace Cottage Hospital on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5 p.m., January 14 and 28, and February 11 and 18. Gentle, flowing movements coupled with the coordinated breathing techniques of these ancient Chinese practices are widely acclaimed as some of the most effective overall exercises for physical and mental health. Strengthening the muscles through simple postures and movements can prevent falls. Moving with flow and gentle weight bearing helps balance and can positively impact bone density. Achieving a relaxed state of mind reduces stress. These are some of the simple premises that underlie the health benefits of Qigong and Tai Chi. This four-session series is open to people of all ages and abilities. It is led by Jason Sperling, a teacher at Leland and Gray High School who has studied tai chi, qigong and meditation practices for years. Classes are held in the serene Grace Cottage Hospital Community Wellness Center, located at 133 Grafton Road/Route 35, Townshend. Wear soft-soled shoes and loose clothing. The cost for the series is only $5 per class. Limited space is available; pre-registration is required. To register or for more information, call 802-365-3649.
