‘The 39 Steps’
On Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m., the Friends of the West River Trail will present Alfred Hitchcock’s under-exposed classic, ‘The 39 Steps’ at the South Londonderry Depot. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. As in many other Hitchcock films, an everyman becomes swept up in events beyond his control and must fight to preserve his life, clear his name and, in this case, protect his country from pre-WW II Germany. Although he filmed ‘The 39 Steps’ over 80 years ago, British film critics still consider it one of the finest films This presentation will be the first to employ the new audio-visual system the Friends have acquired thanks to a substantial grant from the Thrifty Attic and to Toby Fitch of South Londonderry for his technical advice in selecting and assembling the components. Admission is free, but contributions to assist with the upkeep of the Depot and the enhancement of newly acquired property at the site of the South Londonderry trailhead will be appreciated.
