The Blessing of the Animals
At 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, rain or shine, Pastor Bill Sheldon, of the Brownsville Community Church will welcome and introduce several denominational leaders from our region who will participate in this year’s interfaith Blessing of the Animals at the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society. This interfaith blessing of the animals is free to the community. Seniors, families, singles, and children of all ages are encouraged to bring their dogs, cats, horses, birds, lizards, pot bellied pigs, fish, turtles and other well-behaved animals. If this is not feasible, you may bring along a photo of your pet, including those animal companions who are no longer with us and those creatures who have, unfortunately, been subjected to inhumane, neglectful and/or unethical treatment.
Donations for the Animals-in-Need Food Shelf will be collected. This gathering will also be an opportunity for folks to contribute dog and cat food, kitty litter, food bowls, dog beds, leashes, and collars, hay and feed for the Animals-in-Need Food Shelf organized by Lucy Mac and Friends. On this day and always, it is important to recognize and honor the great bond and relationship between animals and their people. The ceremony will last approximately 30 minutes followed by light refreshments. Visitors are welcome to stay to tour the facility throughout the afternoon.
The Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society is located 1⁄4 mile from the intersection of Routes 106 and 44 at 4832 Route 44 in Brownsville, Vt. The Shelter can be reached at 802-484-5829.
