The Great Schaghticoke FairThe ‘Who’s Your Souper Hero?’ theme kicks off the 194th great Schaghticoke Fair, which opens on Wednesday, August 28, and runs through Monday, September 2, Labor Day Weekend, with free shows, free entertainment and lots of tasty fair food. The largest fair in the area is bringing exciting acts, like Elephant Encounter, an up close and personal experience with the world’s largest land animals, Galaxy Girl, the world’s highest aerial thrill show, and the U.S. Freestyle Motocross Championship Series that introduces extreme sport entertainment.

Back by popular demand, will be Gary the Silent Clown, Buffalo Barfield, Michael Blaine, master hypnotist, and Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales, a theatrical experience delightful for all ages. New this year, the Fair introduces the Enchanted Wagon, an interactive strolling act which will be sure to capture your heart.

Appearing on Today’s Options Free Stage in the park, will be the Rising Stars Talent Competition, Sage City Six, a Dixieland Band, Hooville Homebrew, a Funk Fun Band, national country rock artist J. Collins, Drew Polsun and the Fascinations, the ultimate Elvis tribute show, Joey Pucci and the American Longboards performing drum-driven surf music, Hotel California, the original tribute band to the Eagles, country rocker Carmine Dio, Nashville country artist Chris Janson, and the capital region’s rising country star, Chelsea Cavanaugh.

At the grandstand watch pickup truck, farm tractor and the NYTPA tractor pulls. The Double M Rodeo will be performing on Saturday afternoon, featuring for the first time back-to-back demolition derbies, produced by Stoney Roberts. Sunday night will feature a specialty heat and on Monday will be the ever popular demolition derbies, sure to thrill the fans in the grandstand. The Saturday night special, Fireworks by Alonzo’s, is sponsored by Quick Response Restoration.

Did someone say fair food? Can you smell the hot sausage with peppers and onions? Can you already taste the fried dough, cotton candy and homemade fudge? We are introducing new food vendors this year, such as the Turkey Trot Café, and including new foods, flavored ice teas, shortcakes,and bacon dipped in chocolate, so make sure you stop on by and sample some of the best-tasting fair food around.

On Wednesday, August 21 at the Fairgrounds, the Schaghticoke Fair will be partnering with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York to collect non-perishable food items to help kick off the fair theme of ‘Who’s Your Souper Hero?’ For each can donated, a $1 voucher will be given to be used towards admission only on Friday, August 30. More information and details to be announced. Also on Friday, August 30, special contests will be going on throughout the day to promote ‘Who’s Your Souper Hero?’
